Local Information
GETTING TO MYRTLE HILL
We are situated just over 1 mile from the A40 between Llandeilo and Llandovery, about ½ hours drive from the end of the M4. If you are coming this way, ignore the sign for Llandeilo at the Pont Abraham roundabout, carry on to the next roundabout at Cross Hands and turn right there. This is a much better route. When you reach the small roundabout at Ffairfach, turn left and go through Llandeilo and out the other side, over the roundabout towards Llandovery. The turning for Llansadwrn is about ½ a mile past the next roundabout on the left. At the T junction at the top of the hill turn right, go past the church and pub and Myrtle Hill will be seen on your left.
If you come from the north on the A40, turn right at Llanwrda, go through the village on the Lampeter road and take the left turning marked Llansadwrn. After a mile the road bears round sharply to the left. Myrtle Hill is the 3rd house on the right after the bend.
If you want to leave the car at home -
By Rail – We are easily reached from Llangadog or Llanwrda stations on the Swansea to Shrewsbury “Heart of Wales” line. It is easier to walk from Llandwrda (1½ miles). If you would prefer a lift from the station, this can usually be arranged from Llangadog station.
By Bus – The 180 bus from Carmarthen to Llandovery passes the house 6 times each way every day except Sunday.
SHOPPING
There is a Co-op in Llandeilo (7 miles) and a Somerfield in Llandovery (5 miles)
For everyday items there is a village shop in Llanwrda – 1 mile walk or 5 minutes drive.
Both Llandovery and Llandeilo have a good range of shops; Llandeilo especially has cafes, delicatessens, an antique market, bookshop and a very good butchers, Coopers, famous locally for wonderful sausages. Both towns hold a country market for local producers on Friday mornings.
CASH MACHINES
The nearest cash machine is in the village shop in Llanwrda.
There are Banks and cash machines in both Llandovery and Llandeilo and outside the Co-op in Llandeilo.
MOBILE PHONE RECEPTION
Perfect – if you really do want to get away from it all as reception is patchy and inconsistent depending on your network but improves outside the house.
WALKS FROM MYRTLE HILL
It couldn’t be easier! From a leisurely stroll (O.K. it is a bit steep in places!) to get the morning papers (about 1 hour) to an all day hike, you can forget the car and enjoy the Carmarthen Fans on foot from your doorstep. Feel free to borrow maps, books or ask for Lizzie and Dudley’s personal favourite walks, details of which can be found in the information packs provided.
